On Wednesday evening, the Castro Theater in San Francisco was crazy with celebrities in a way that is a bit unusual for the City by the Bay. We get one or two here and there. But on Wednesday a whole slew of them showed up for the world premier of Al Pacino’s new documentary (ish) Wilde Salome, the result of a self-described obsession with Oscar Wilde. It’s a movie about Pacino making Wilde’s play Salome (which is also a pretty famous opera), and we get some really fun glimpses into Pacino’s personality. Also, Jessica Chastain is in the film kissing a severed head!
Going back to red carpet notables, in addition to the folks in my headline, Peter Coyote, Joan Chen, and I’m sure a bunch of folks I didn’t recognize were also in attendance. As was I! It was a star-studded, super fun evening, and Banana Republic (a co-sponsor) was kind enough to invite me. Mr. Pacino gave a little speech, and accepted an award on behalf of the GLBT Historical Society, to which proceeds from the evening were donated. He was very sweet, funny and charming. More self-deprecating than I expected! Oh and did I mention I touched Al Pacino?
Check out the awesome photos below. I feel like something is happening in San Francisco. Something really good.
