I told you guys a few months ago about how I ran into my very first in-the-flesh (and luckily stuffed) honey badger at the Alexis Bittar store in San Francisco. So you can imagine how excited I was when Refinery29 San Francisco editor Katie Hintz asked me to attend Bittar’s Fall/Winter presentation, where I would interview Mr. Bittar himself. I couldn’t wait to ask him about his love of honey badgers! Oh, and his amazing jewelry too, of course.
Well, it turns out he had no idea that his San Francisco store contained a ferocious honey badger. But he does love taxidermy. This was the money quote of the evening (so much so that New York Magazine’s The Cut picked it up) from the Refinery29 piece:
I walked into a store about five years ago and saw a bear. I though that was a really cool display and the crazy thing was women walked in and they didn’t even see the bear and went right for the cases. I like the contrast of having such a feminine store and then having something kind of fucked up. And as years moved on we’re getting really creepy and making hybrid taxidermy with Frank Zitz. He’ll do like a half swan, half gazelle.
I wonder what he’d mix with a honey badger?
And for the record, when I asked him about Randall’s honey badger video, he said: “Oh my god I did see the video!” And also: “I love that your third question was about the honey badger.” I couldn’t help myself.
