Last night during drinks with two of my favorite fashion-y friends at La Folie lounge, the conversation turned to knitwear — sweaters and such a la Margaret O’Leary et. al. Sweaters are a garment one can wear year round in San Francisco. Whether they’re of the chunky variety or fine guage, you will almost never be sorry you brought one along. On the rare occasion when you don’t need it in San Francisco, you can tie it around your waist or shoulders, unlike a jacket that can be too bulky or stiff for such treatment.
So even though it’s spring, sweaters are on my mind as I imagine what I’ll be wearing this summer, especially as we prepare to move to the beachy climate of Pacifica on Friday! So it was fortuitous that Another magazine featured Bella Freud in its email newsletter this morning. The British “tastemaker” and knitwear designer has created some majorly covet-worthy sweaters. The David Bowie lightening bolt version is so on my list, even though it’s meant for boys. I also love the straightforward “Fashion” pullover, and the cape and capelets are tempting as well. Check out her online shop and her boutique Net-a-Porter, which features an exclusive design created with Susie Bick former model and mother of twin boys with her husband Nick Cave — a lot of good stuff going on there!
