Whatever Corine Roitfeld will be getting up to in the new year in her post-Vogue Paris life, I pray she will still be in the spotlight. After perusing Vogue’s slideshow of 50 Corine Roitfeld moments, the thing that made me happiest was that she clearly wears whatever the F she wants without wondering if it’s age-appropriate. Now 56, she wore what looks like a lace catsuit and black bodysuit to a gallery opening last year. In this photo she’s wearing a dress with mesh sides. Here, her shirt is pretty much transparent and she’s not wearing a bra. This is what she wore to a masquerade ball in October celebrating her magazine’s 90th anniversary. Last one: amazing.
JWOW and Snookie have likely worn outfits that could be described similarly. But on them the final package is, how you say, “tres Jersey,” while Ms. Roitfeld looks nothing but tres chic. It’s probably very American to focus on age, so I vow to be more French if it means no longer worrying whether my outfits are appropriate to my birthday. The real question is: is your outfit stylish and does it suit you? Do you feel awesome in what you’re wearing? And do you really give a flying foie gras what anyone else thinks?
Anyway, I doubt I have to worry about a dearth of Roitfeld photo fixes. Photographers love her, and with rumors buzzing that she’ll be joining Tom Ford on his new women’s line, we’re sure to see plenty of her black eyeliner and je ne sais quois in the coming years.
