Catherine Malandrino‘s Spring/Summer 2011 presentation made me a little verklempt, I won’t deny. It was my first New York Fashion Week, the models stood majestically on podiums framing a huge reflecting pool at Lincoln Center, and Malandrino herself stood inches away from me in all her French fabulousness. It was a lot to deal with. I didn’t think she could make a bigger impact, but she may have gone and done just that with her fall 2011 presentation at the abandoned former New York Times building, which is slated to undergo a transformation into a hotel starting this week. The enormous glasses, the red, white and blue colors, and the amazing hats are all tres francais, but also very New York; feminine but also rock and roll — points underscored by a phython bag festooned with the word “Paris” on one side, “New York” on the other. Here are my faves. I’m dying for the striped pants, the one-shoulder dress, and one of those darn hats! Enjoy!
