Were you wondering what the heck CFDA stands for? Do you know exactly who Rei Kawakubo is and actually own something from Comme Des Garcons? Just feel like getting judge-y on some red carpet celebrities? Here are the best places to do it:
Paper Magazine for great snaps.
I hesitate to send you to Style.com, because the site is seriously screwed up at the moment. But if you can find the content, it’s good! Follow my links here instead of trying to navigate the site or it will only end in frustration. Style.com has fixed their issues. They have a round up of Q&As and features on CFDA honorees including Garance Dore and Scott Schuman (the blogger couple who received the Eugenia Sheppard media award), Tommy Hilfiger, who won the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme Des Garcons and winner of the International Award.
Also check out their video of red carpet highlights, and
supposedly an exclusive broadcast of the awards ceremony hosted by Seth Meyers, though it’s unclear at this point when you’ll be able to watch it which you can watch now!
Until the aforementioned site gets its act together, read about the ceremony, in which Seth Meyers wears the same thing (gasp!) as Marc Jacobs did to the Met Gala, in The New York Times. Don’t miss the slideshow of the awards and after party.
Check out New York Magazine’s handy list of all the 2012 CFDA winners, plus highlights and weird moments. So excited that Joseph Altuzarra won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, he is adorable and sweet.
P.S. Wondering why the photo of John Waters? He accepted the Fashion Icon award for Johnny Depp, who said he couldn’t make it because he was filming (though he performed at the MTV Movie Awards the night before!). Waters also accepted the International Award for Rei Kuwakubo, founder of the tres avant garde Comme Des Garcons. It’s all sort of perfect, really.
