I recently caught this TED talk by Courtney Martin, a founder of Feministing. Her mother was a feminist, but it was fishnet stockings that really got her to adopt the moniker. At Barnard College, she noticed that Jennifer Baumgardner, co-author of the book ManifestA: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future, was wearing an amazing pair of fishnets.
“I think that part of the work of feminism is to admit that aesthetics, that beauty, that fun do matter,” Martin says.
Listen to the talk if you think you might be a feminist but are afraid to call yourself one.
