Over the holidays I had the pleasure of partnering with Sun Basket, a meal-delivery service created by Slanted Door’s former head chef Justine Kelly. It turned out to be the perfect meal delivery service for a cooking-curious individual such as myself.
My husband is the cook in our family, and while I used to enjoy cooking a bit before I was married, I’ve developed zero chops over the past decade, and they only let me cook oatmeal and pasta these days.
After years of neglect, my cooking muscles have atrophied. I’m intimidated by shopping for ingredients and following recipes, so I leave all that to the husband. But sometimes I feel sad about it.
Sun Basket made it easy for me to dip my toe into the cooking pool again. The service delivers all the ingredients you need, in the exact measurements necessary, to cook a delicious, organic, healthy, meal in 30 minutes. Plus, they have Paleo, gluten-free and vegetarian options. Everything is provided (even the meat and seafood, which is sustainably sourced) and packed meticulously in a chilled delivery box.
When I received the boxes I was impressed by how well everything was packed. But then I thought, oh man, so much waste. But none of it actually goes to waste—Sun Basket picks up the boxes to reuse, and delivery both ways is free. Whew!
Our first meal was Thai chicken wings with bok choy and salad. We happened to eat this on Christmas day, which is a bit of a non-traditional Christmas dinner (as you can see we’re all still in our xmas jammies), but delicious!
Next up was lamb-beef burgers with pear chutney and cauliflower. Also delicious, super easy, and, as you can see, Frida loved the cauliflower!
The third and final meal was Yucatan-style shrimp with cassava asido wedges. Our teenager loves shrimp and devoured this one. Sorry, all the photos of that very active feast were all too blurry 🙂
