My husband and I played hooky yesterday to celebrate his new job (and also to mourn that we won’t get to work from home together anymore!) and headed to Napa for the gorgeous 80+ degree weather, wine tasting and amazing food of wine country.
Downtown Napa proper is often overshadowed by the idyllic, rolling vineyards and gorgeous wineries surrounding it. But yesterday the husband was determined to find out what central Napa has to offer. So it’s thanks to him that I stumbled upon Betty’s Girl Boutique, a beautifully organized explosion of vintage dresses, cowboy boots, handbags, jewelry, scarves, hat boxes and other vintage clothing items just a couple doors down from Ubuntu, the much-celebrated restaurant meets yoga studio.
But Betty’s Girl is more than just a vintage shop. Kim, the proprietor, will alter anything to fit you, and she even reconstructs items to look the way you want, be it for prom, your wedding or whatever: different straps, hem, you name it — and most alterations are free! She’s known for her white petticoat-style dresses, skirts and tops (check out the window display in the gallery below), which she makes mostly out of vintage shirts. Kim created the store in honor of her mother (Betty, of course!) who taught her everything she knows about sewing, reconstructing clothing, and choosing top quality vintage. The boutique is quite the homage indeed; if the husband hadn’t been waiting in the car I would have browsed for hours! And I perhaps would have bought one or five things as well — an all-girl trip to Napa is going on the calendar STAT!
