For Halloween about 10 years ago, I dressed as “Tangled Up in Blue,” a song from Bob Dylan’s 1975 album Blood on the Tracks. I can’t claim it was my own original idea — I’d heard a friend of a friend did it the previous year. The costume consisted of all-blue clothing and blue yarn tangled and strewn around the body. Genius, I thought. Perhaps, but too obscure a reference for most people to recognize, making it a considerably less fun costume than Princess Leia several years later.
One other thing this song reminds me of: I was a nanny in my early 20s, and I sang Tangled Up in Blue every day before my charge’s nap (per her specific request, she was three!). It was the best part of the day because one, I loved singing that song and two, nap time meant a break for me.
Anyway, I hope this outfit is a fitting tribute to the fabulousness of Tangled Up in Blue. This dress, if you look closely, has an amazing blue moon graphic print that I love.
