My hair was getting LONG. I wanted it that way, being a neo-hippie and all, but it needed some attention, especially since it hadn’t been attended to in five months. Lucky for me, Robert James Color salon in San Francisco’s Union Square recently hired a stylist named Jason Lund who specializes in curly and wavy hair. He’s fresh from New York (and already hitting Yoga Tree) where he got serious chops training with Aveda and working with Nick Arrojo (you know him from What Not to Wear), and developing his skills on the fashionable ladies and gentlemen of NYC for the past 15 years. I don’t think I’ve ever received such a precise haircut — and he did almost all of it with a razor. Jason explained that you can get as perfect a cut with a razor as you can with scissors. The difference is in the ends of the hair: With scissors the ends will be blunt, and with a sharp razor (which he changes after every cut, so it’s *really* sharp) the ends have a bezel.
He also offered to style my hair like a Victoria Secret model’s, and let’s face it, who can refuse such an offer? I cursed the San Francisco wind as I walked to the BART station, but it held up pretty well for the evening’s festivities: dinner and Graham Central Station at Yoshi’s (more on that later!). Check out the before (left) and after (perusing the menu at Yoshi’s) above. An improvement, yes? If only Jason could give me Victoria Secret hair every day!
