I wrote about Snapette, the iPhone app for sharing your awesome shopping finds, back in August when it was really spankin’ new. In the meantime, I’ve also become an Instagram fanatic. The great thing about Snapette is that it’s like Instagram for shopping: and that’s obviously nothing but good.
The app asks users to focus on bags and shoes at the moment (though I’ve noticed a few pieces of jewelry sneak in from time to time), but staffers tell me they have plans to eventually branch out into beauty and possibly other genres. Accessories are certainly easier to photograph than clothing. It’s always a challenge to get a good-looking photo of garments hanging on a rack. But the app does include Instagram-like filters, which always help! Meanwhile, images of accessories-only are surprisingly fun to flip through. I’m discovering pieces I never would have otherwise. And when you click on an image you like, it gives you all the details of where it was spotted and how much it costs. You can also click to see more from that brand or from the user. Does it sound addictive? It totally is.
It works like so: you snap photos of bags or shoes. You tag them with the price, designer, store, and a description if you like, then upload it. I was sheepish when I first started snapping photos in stores; I wasn’t sure how merchants would react. It’s always a good idea to ask permission, of course, but I found most are thrilled to have their wares shared with other fashionistas in app-landia.
