This post is sort of “one from the archives.” While doing a major desk cleaning, I finally went through approximately 178 business cards collected over the past several months and found one belonging to Maral Rapp. After typing in her URL I remembered how much I coveted her metal mesh jewelry at the Renegade Craft Fair. She starts with vintage Whiting and Davis handbags, and fashions them into the earrings and necklaces of my dreams. The woman posted at Rapp’s booth during the fair told me it’s quite a labor-intensive process, which must partly account for the steep prices (in addition to the jaw-dropping styles). Some of my fave SF boutiques carry her jewelry: FiatLux, Gallery of Jewels, Secession Art & Design and Wonderland SF. I’m saving up starting… now!
Interestingly, Whiting and Davis also makes industrial metal mesh for protection against cuts and other injuries on the job. So you never know, your necklace might also fend off incoming projectiles!
