I went to Nordstrom yesterday to check out Nicole Richie’s presentation of her latest Winter Kate clothing and House of Harlow 1960 shoes and accessory designs. When I arrived at 5:30 — 30 minutes later than the event was scheduled to begin, there were maybe 75 fans who had been waiting for more than an hour. When they finally got to meet Nicole, a burly man took their shopping bags and purses, other burly men hovered around, and she said approximately one word to them (“Hi”), they got a photograph, and were on their way. “I don’t like her anymore,” one young woman said as she walked away from the brief interlude.
It made me wonder if these events have the desired effect. Perhaps it depends on the celebrity, the day she’s had, and the number of such events she’s done in the past week. I’m sure there were plenty of girls who liked her even better after meeting her. But events like this are inevitably awkward and stilted.
I was interested because, as you maybe have noticed, I’m obsessed with boho style and Nicole is all over that look. Check out the photos of models who hovered around Nicole’s perch in Nordstrom’s Savvy department. I love the flowy print blouses and maxi dress. I’m also really into the platform leather lace cut-out sandals, and I hate to admit, I really do like the moccasin boots. What can I say, I’m a sucker for such things!
Anyway I would love to hear what you guys think. Would you wait an hour in line in the Savvy department or elsewhere to meet a celebrity who will certainly not remember you two minutes afterwards (not that I have an opinion on the matter)?
