Norman Ambrose was adjusting his models’ hair, bows, etc. as we arrived for his Fall/Winter 2011 presentation at Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week, giving us a welcome close up look at the handsome designer. His daytime looks channeled 70s glam: think Faye Dunaway in a camel, fur-trimmed coat. His evening looks hinted at a 20s speakeasy, with copious beading and sequins, but hugging the body significantly closer than the typical flapper dress. Overall the designer’s New York Fashion Week debut was a refreshing departure: off the minimalist and grunge trends and all about luxury and making it look effortless though we know it was anything but.
