San Francisco was the very first city in the world to get a look at Karl Lagerfeld’s capsule collection for Macy’s. How on earth did that happen in Frumptopia, you ask? It was a perfect storm of San Francisco magazine’s style editor Elizabeth Varnell having the right connections at Macy’s, and the Bay Area being blogger central. Everyone involved figured SF would be the perfect place to launch because the bloggers would be tweeting and Facebooking their little hearts out at the opening. And they were right! The fashion bloggers were out in force, and most were trying on various pieces from the Lagerfeld collection (we were allowed to purchase two items in advance of the official launch on Wednesday), especially one coveted pair of faux-leather shorts. And those who purchases also received a super chic Karl for Macy’s branded garment bag.
The collection seemed to receive mixed reviews. My blogger compatriots were either frantically grabbing items and scouting for free dressing rooms, or opting instead for champagne and cupcakes. I was latter, mainly because it was clear that many of the styles would require me to wear a double layer of Spanx. I was, however, temped by the metallic tweed shift, in which Ms. Varnell was looking very chic! I also fancied the sweater dress pictured above, though my friend was skeptical. Alas, there was no time for trying on, another event at Levi’s awaited — post coming soon!
