Another crop of incredibly talented fashion design students will send their creations down the runway on Saturday at the Academy of Art University graduation fashion show. Every year these future Philip Lims and Rodartes impress and amaze at the annual show in San Francisco (see above how much Yigal Azrouel enjoyed last year’s show).
Students presented their collections first on Thursday evening when superstar guests Sarah Burton, creative director at Alexander McQueen, who has gracefully led the company since its namesake tragically took his own life in 2010, and over-the-top milliner Philip Treacy also took in the show. (Last year was Yigal Azrouel, Cathy Horyn and surprise guest Suzy Menkes). Also in attendance was less of a household name but very impressive-sounding: Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud, CEO of ALFA and AL HAMA, the companies that own and operate Harvey Nichols Department Sotre, Donna Karan, and DKNY stores in Saudi Arabia. Ooh lala! All of the above received honorary doctorate degrees from AAU. And even more exciting for the students, these big names were front and center to view their collections.
And now you can see it all this Saturday May 5 at 2pm at the school: 79 New Montgomery in San Francisco. The good news is you don’t have to pull strings to snag a ticket for this one, it’s open to the public! But you do have to get up early on Saturday to claim your seat: organizers will be doling out tickets from 9am until 1pm on a first come first served basis at the school.
