I’m majorly overwhelmed and thankful for the response to my post on Friday about getting fired. I have to say I was really nervous to expose myself like that, and I asked my husband, who is really good at tough love editing, to read the post twice before I clicked the publish button. In this case he had only positive things to say, so I went for it and I can’t even tell you how glad I am that I did. In addition to the 94 (!) comments on Facebook and 20 comments on the post itself, I also received private messages from friends who had been fired or gone through other experiences that shook their self esteem, thanking me for the post. It seems to have made a lot of people feel less shitty about getting fired.
So I’m going to take that honesty ball and run with it. I’ll be posting here daily, and I’ll do my best not to make things seem shinier or happier than they really are. For example, I’m telling you right now that while Frida was just reaching the top of that ladder (see above), I looked away for one second and she FELL probably 6 feet or so and it was terrifying. The husband was nearby and he came running over and I felt totally guilty for being the bad parent who let her fall.
She was OK, thank god.
I probably have my limits… like I’m not sure how real I can get with crow’s feet or, say, cellulite? Ugh OK fine, blatant retouching is probably hypocritical in the context of “being honest.” But don’t fault me for getting creative with filters, OK?
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know what to expect here going forward. I will still post about style, being a mom, beauty discoveries and life on the northern coast of California, hopefully with thoughtful commentary now and then. There’s also this thing called eqigenetics that I’m kind of obsessed with. It’s the science of how the environment changes how your DNA behaves, and being an adopted person who has adopted a child makes this super interesting to me and I’ll try to write about it in a non-boring way. Now that I’m jobless, I’ll be posting a lot more—at least once every day. Are there topics you’d like to see me write about? I’m super open to suggestions. And thanks again to everyone for the unexpected outpouring of support for my shitcan confession.
What I’m wearing: vintage Army issue pants (remember American Rag on Van Ness? God I loved that store), vintage Built by Wendy sweater, Converse sneakers, Brownie & Madam glasses, and the belt is J. Crew. Everything Frida’s wearing is from Zulily: Yo Baby dress and Shoes of Soul shoes. Shop similar items below if you’re so inclined!
