We have exciting news today at Stylenik headquarters: a new addition to the team! Yasha Morehouse Stelzner is our brand spankin’ new editor. She’s a self-proclaimed business wonk (the girl has an MBA from Northwestern), luxury fanatic, and Academy of Art fashion journalism student, which makes her the perfect candidate to write a luxury column for Stylenik. Stay tuned for the first installment tomorrow! We’re still trying to think of a name for it. Any ideas? I have a bottle of DHC deep cleansing oil with your name on it if we pick yours!
Yasha is also a budding DJ, loves honey badgers (duh), and is a hopeless Francophile — an irrational obsession with all things French being a prerequisite for her new post. With that in mind, we thought we’d introduce her by re-creating Paris Vogue’s “Complice” (“Knowing” en Francais) feature, in which they ask someone the same questions every month. Everyone, this is Yasha:
What is your greatest quality?
I’m incapable of lying or exaggerating — so if I compliment you, you know I really mean it.
What is your biggest fault?
Probably also my incapability to lie… there have been many times when I should have flattered a boss and I couldn’t do it.
Who is the fashion personality who has impressed you the most?
Right now, I’m really intrigued by Tom Ford. I once had a successful entrepreneur tell me, “Whatever everyone else is doing, do the opposite,” and I think this is what Ford is doing by moving away from the immediacy of fashion. Where everyone else is speeding up, he is slowing down. He’s either brilliant, or he’ll be out of business.
Who is the fashion personality you dream of meeting?
Well, I was lucky enough to meet Cathy Horyn recently. While that was great, I’d love to talk to her one-on-one and maybe find out what she REALLY thinks.
Where would you take them?
A very down-to-earth restaurant or cafe so we could have a real conversation.
If you could, what other job would you have done?
I’m not sure I could have kept up with the late night lifestyle, but I wish I had spent some time DJing when I was younger. I’m playing around with it now, but it’s hard when, some days, I can’t wait to go to bed at 9!
What are you working on right now?
I’m taking classes in fashion journalism, blogging, and trying to meet as many people in the fashion industry as I can.
What is your motto?
Sometimes, I need a boost of confidence so I think of the Dorothy Parker quote, “Sweet’s the air with smoke from all my burning bridges.” Which I interpret as, sometimes you need to just say what you feel and move on.
