Tavi Gevinson, the teenage blogger who became famous for beyond-her-years writing on TheStyleRookie, has been talking for months about launching a new online magazine with Jane Pratt, formerly of Sassy and Jane magazines and presently of XOJane. Pratt has characterized Gevinson’s project as a “branch under the JanePratt.com (which became xojane.com) umbrella for teenaged people — girls.”
But Fashionista reports that last night, Tavi told Ira Glass on the NPR show “This American Life” that the upcoming online publication will be called “Rookie.” And when asked how she will prevent the publication from going the way of Sassy, which folded after just two years, Tavi responded “I own everything.” Pratt’s publication xojane.com, on the other hand is owned by Say: Media.
Perhaps Rookie won’t be a branch but its very own tree.
