That’s me doing a mermaid on the reformer. Photo by the amazing Kate Nichols.
Some of you might know that I have this other life where I teach Pilates. I started training at my friend Martine Curtis-Oakes‘ studio in Paris to become an instructor three years ago after I left my job as science editor at Wired.com. I did all the course work for teaching Pilates on the mat, passed my certification exam, and started teaching at a studio in San Francisco called Core Pilates on 17th Street. Later on, through Pilates Acedemy International, I took all the coursework to teach on the Reformer and Cadillac. I fulfilled all my practice and observation hours on both pieces of equipment, but I never took the certification exam — possibly because I’m lazy, or because I’m a procrastinator, but likely both!
My point is that I’m finally taking my certification exam tomorrow, which means I won’t be blogging a whole lot. But I will be back on Friday with news of my success or failure, as well as some riveting style stories for you.
UPDATE: I passed! But I’m only halfway there. That was the practical portion, I have to take a written test (with lots of anatomy) next Wednesday. Sigh, more studying!
