I grew up in the 80s. I also worked at Wired.com for a decade. So maybe it’s not surprising that I’m head over heels for Hayden-Harnett’s Tron collection. According to the HH website, Walt Disney invited invited HH to create a capsule collection of bags and accessories in conjunction with the new Tron: Legacy movie starring everyone’s favorite dude, Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde of House fame. Disney will release the film, which is a sequel to the original 1982 movie Tron, on December 17. HH creative director, Toni Hacker, says:
Tron was such an entirely formative and important film for me in 1982 (and beyond!). I feel that my aesthetic as a designer and artist is greatly influenced by Disney’s seminal film of a future cyber-world with good versus evil. … I love the character of BYTE and the prismatic shapes of our collection are inspired by the glory of this witty bit of 35th icosahedron stellation AI glory. …Viva la geek-chic revolution!
Sounds like a true geek talking. This might be the weirdest collaboration I’ve ever heard of, but I love everything about it — especially the awesome-looking bags and accessories. They’re available for preorder and scheduled to ship on Dec. 10. I’ll be in the Los Angeles area for Thanksgiving, so I definitely plan to hit up the TRON L.A. popup shop at the RoyalT. See you there!
