Outside Lands 2012, yes it was that cold. Photo by Jesus Diaz.
So you haven’t had a chance to go shopping for that perfect Outside Lands outfit? Well, the fest starts tomorrow, so it’s time to start shopping your closet. But don’t worry, you probably have most of these things lying around, possibly unworn for years. Time to break out those pieces and make them new to you. But if you feel like your closet is hopeless, don’t despair. I’ve included local shopping recommendations where you can find key items. Happy outfitting! See you at the park!
Do you have a long dress, any long dress, really? Long-sleeved is great for chilly Golden Gate Park, or wear a cardigan or a denim jacket (or both, or a vintage fur like me!) over it. If you don’t have a kaftan, I recommend checking out Wallflower at 2391 Mission Street (at 20th) where I got the one I’m wearing above with my blogger buddies Like Fresh Laundry, The Coveted, and Shop Sweet Things. The one below would work too (no longer available unfortunately, but it was from Mira Mira, and she has other really cute maxi dresses at the moment—3292 22nd Street at Valencia.)

How about a long john-ish top? The thinner the better—wear it under your dress. It can actually be any long-sleeved pull-over, snug-fitting shirt. If you get hot, you can squirm it off Jennifer Beals-style and stuff it in your backpack.
You have a backpack, right? It’s the best way to carry your stuff at a music fest. Crossbodies annoy me when I’m dancing and running around. I like everything out of the way. Just make sure your wallet and other valuables are secure and not easily snatchable. Check out The Voyager Shop at 365 Valencia Street for cute, sturdy ones from Joshu + Vela. Or check out Flight 001 at 525 Hayes Street (or one of these other SF shops) for some cute Jansport packs. Also, True at 1415 Haight Street has a super cute collab bag with Jansport right now!

I bet you have a poncho! Throw it on over your kaftan, and throw it down on the ground when you’re desperate to rest your weary feet. I bought mine for a song at Clothes Circuit at 473 Valencia Street in SF. Also, this reversible poncho from Wallflower is calling my name.
You definitely have a pair of athletic sneaks. It’s totally on trend right now to wear them with a cute dress, so embrace that fact and save your feet. If you need this as an excuse to buy a new pair, head over to True Sole at 1429 Haight Street (three doors down from the clothing store) for some new Adidas or Nikes.
