This week’s wrecking your stockings column is exclusively devoted to San Francisco’s Outside Lands music festival. It’s all I can think about right now as I plan my three long days in what promises to be a very chilly, foggy Golden Gate Park.
BUT this is what we have to look forward to: LCD Sounsystem, Radiohead, DURAN DURAN, and my personal favorite, Sufjan Stevens. I 100% expect to cry during his set. Totally worth braving the fog!
I’m also excited because I’ll be interviewing a few of my favorite performers including the Foals, the Wombats (so many animal bands!!), Oh Wonder, HÆLOS and Julien Baker, whom I wasn’t familiar with but has a gorgeous voice and also promises to make me cry during her performance.
Here’s a roundup of all the bands I’m excited about:
I was obsessed with their song “My Number” from 2013, and Mountain at My Gates is just as catchy and obsession-worthy.
I mean, I never got to see these hotties when I was in high school and drooling over them in Teen Beat. Never too late!!
They’re playing at the same time as LCD Soundsystem, ugh. But I love their sad girl emo vibe.
They’ve been on their reunion tour this summer, and I’m pretty F’ing excited to get to see them. After all, they played a huge roll is creating my favorite home video of all time.
Also playing at the same time as LCD Soundsystem 🙁 But I might try to catch some of his show because the teen introduced me to this song, which is a little uncomfortable but strangely sweet at the same time if you listen to the lyrics.
This is a tough time slot, but I’m going to try to make it!
I was close to tormented with my fixation on their song Jump Into the Fog which, wow, came out back in 2010. The lyrics are kind of mean and cynical but the tune is so catchy. Plus, we had recently moved to Pacifica 🙂 I drove my husband nuts playing it over and over. Their latest album, Glitterbug, is rad also.
Big Grams + Phantogram
I LOVE this song, and I love all the folks who make up this supergroup.
This song make me cry every freaking time. This newer song is wonderful, too.
The last time I saw them was the last time they were at Outside Lands in 2008. It’s been too long!
It’s going to be a light day for me. I’m going to forego Lionel Ritchie, though it would be fun to see him, and I’m sorry but I can’t drum up any amount of care for Lana Del Rey
They are pretty new to me but I dig them and love this video.
I’m really into their newer song Dopamine, but they don’t have a video for it (yet).
